Dr. Suraj Patel grew up in a small town in west Texas named Big Spring. He left high school early and attended the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science in Denton, Texas on the campus of the University of North Texas. He then completed a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a proud alumni member since.
He did most of his training in New York City including at Mt Sinai, SUNY Downstate and eventually Columbia where he completed an interventional radiology fellowship.
His passions include prostate artery embolization, complex venous interventions including IVC filter retrieval, DVT/PE, and trauma angiography. His training at Columbia was very closely tied to the transplant surgery department and thus he is well versed in portal hypertension and complex biliary intervention.
Dr. Patel has had robust interventional oncology training of which allows him to treat a multitude of cancers via embolization and ablation. He also practices palliative pain management with nerve blocks and ablations. Dr. Patel is the Chief of Radiology at Ascension Seton Hays in Kyle and is an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Medicine at Dell Medical School in Austin.
Aside from medicine, Dr. Patel enjoys his free time when he gets it by traveling the world. He enjoys the great outdoors including skiing in the winter, fishing throughout the year, mountaineering/canyoning, and water sports throughout the hot summers.
He’s a foodie and he loves his news podcasts. Ask him about the weather and he’ll be more than happy to discuss the wind and precipitation forecasts in detail. He truly does enjoy chitchatting and is very easy going.
