When should I start my yearly mammograms?
Austin Radiological Association agrees with the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) in their recommendations for screening mammograms. The ACR states that the most lives are saved when annual mammography starts at 40. ACCORDINGLY, ARA CONTINUES TO RECOMMEND THAT WOMEN BEGIN THEIR YEARLY MAMMOGRAMS AT AGE 40. It is important to note that a recent analysis of ARA data showed that a significant number (20%) of the cancers found in our studies were in women between the ages of 40 and 49. ARA urges women to talk to their doctors when making the vital decision of when to begin yearly mammograms.
